I’ve just spent an absolutely fabulous and very relaxing 3 weeks here. I stayed in a Barn Conversion, which exceeded all expectations.

A brand new kitchen had been fitted, with a dishwasher, that was a nice surprise. Also there was a shower and a bath, I was only expecting a shower, so happy to find this. The 2 settees looked new, as did the large TV.

Overall the barn was lovely. I was not overlooked and the double doors were great to open wide and let the sun in. It was so peaceful and relaxed.

Due to Covid restrictions not lifting until my final week, I used the Old Forge on site food delivery service. This was easy to use with quick service and food of good quality. The fishburger was excellent along with the chocolate brownie.

I ate in the Old Forge once restrictions lifted. This has had a complete renovation and wow, it looks brilliant with personable and capable staff.

However, a special mention has to be made of the fish and chips. Oh my goodness, I was blown away with the quality of this. I’m a massive fish and chips fan, and I can honestly say that this was the best one I’ve ever been served. The batter and the homemade tartare sauce were excellent and a huge credit to the chef.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time here, as did my family and the dog. It was an ideal base for South West Cornwall.

Our top 5 dog friendly beaches near Penzance

1. Long Rock near Penzance is a place to let your four-legged friend frolic in the ocean waves and burn off some energy on the sand. The flat sand and pebble beach is close to our park, between Penzance and Marazion, and is great for dogs who love to get wet! The sheltered, shallow waters are ideal for letting your dog chase after a ball on the beach or in the water. There’s also great views of St Michael’s Mount – what location could be better for walking the dog?
2. Gwenver is located in remote West Cornwall near Sennen and is a beautiful little cove off the beaten track. The steep steps to access the beach may put off most people, but the reward is worth it. Your dog will probably think so too…
3. Dog friendly holidays in Cornwall aren’t complete without a visit to Porthkidney Beach near St Ives. On Cornwall’s north coast but only a short drive from our holiday park, this vast sandy beach is not as busy as nearby St Ives Bay, mainly because it is not as accessible. Here you don’t have to fight the crowds in the busy summer season, and it’s an altogether more relaxed affair. Why not combine a visit here with a day trip to St Ives?
4. How do you fancy nearly two miles of uninterrupted beach to explore with your pet? Then Mexico Towans beach, near St Ives, is for you. At low tide this beach is a great place to explore with more than enough room for even the most energetic dogs to tire themselves out.
5. Porthoustock Beach on the Lizard (known locally as Pro’stock) is an east-facing beach with a large flat expanse of coarse dark sand and shingle. This great beach is off the beaten track and perfect for year-round dog walking and exercising.
